S/MARt DB™ - Scaffold / Matrix Attached Region Database

S/MARt DB presents data on scaffold or matrix attached regions (S/MARs) of eukaryotic genomes, as well as data about the proteins that bind to them.

S/MARs organize the chromatin in the form of functionally independent loop domains. Scaffold or Matrix Attached Regions (S/MARs) are genomic DNA sequences through which the chromatin is tightly attached to the proteinaceous scaffold of the nucleus.

S/MARs have also been assigned to affect transcriptional regulation as a distinct class of cis-acting elements, but only recently they were shown to be targeted by several chromatin remodeling factors and thereby to influence gene expression.

The S/MARt DB presents data on these functionally important genomic regions as well as about the proteins that bind to them. Its wet-lab approved data are compiled predominantly from publications in peer-reviewed journals.
