Bioinformatician
You maintain and develop databases and automated data pipelines that parse, fetch and integrate biological data as well as software tools for working with biological data, for example to generate optimized statistical models for sequence analysis. This includes working independently within our international team on the conceptual setup, programming, testing and documenting, improvement and running these systems. Your work contributes to research we are doing funded by grants from the EU and BMBF.
Requirements: You have Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Bioinformatics, or equivalent experience. You have hands-on experience and enjoy programming (ideally in Perl) with SQL and with relational databases. Being familiar with Bioinformatics tools and databases is a plus, as is background or interest in Molecular Biology. You have initiative, like problem solving and speak and write English well.

Scientific Curator, YPD
Scientific Curators are responsible for collecting and integrating scientific information into Biobase’s Proteome brand databases. A Ph.D. or masters degree in the Biological Sciences is required. Strong written English skills are essential.
A Scientific Curator working for YPD (Yeast Proteome Database) will typically work with the full text of a reference to extract and enter all information relevant to the database. Information will be entered both in the form of controlled vocabulary properties (such as Gene Ontology terms) and as free-text annotations which summarize individual experimental findings and conclusions. A background in yeast laboratory work (particularly with the species Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, and/or Candida albicans) and familiarity with techniques normally discussed in the yeast literature is essential.
