BIOBASE was founded in 1997 and is headquartered in Wolfenbüttel, Germany. With branch offices in the USA, India and Japan, BIOBASE serves more than 600 customers worldwide, including pharmaceutical, academic and research institutions.
BIOBASE Knowledge Library (BKL)
BIOBASE's technology started in 1986. The company incorporated in 1997 as a spin-off of the German Research Centre for Biotechnology, Braunschweig. Today, BIOBASE offers a complete range of high-quality databases, knowledge tools and sophisticated software for the life science industry. We refer to our portfolio of products as the BIOBASE Knowledge Library or BKL.
As part of the BKL portfolio, BIOBASE’s first database, TRANSFAC®, became the gold standard in the field of gene regulation. Frost & Sullivan (Report The U.S. Bioinformatics Market) identified TRANSFAC as one of the major stand-alone bioinformatic tools. The TRANSFAC suite of databases includes TRANSCompel® which focuses on composite elements, PathoDB™ which links gene mutations to their corresponding diseases, and S/MARt DB™ which is designed to analyze eukaryotic regulatory chromatin domains.
Another integral part of the BKL is TRANSPATH®, the world's leading signal transduction pathway database for modeling complete regulatory networks.
The PROTEOME™ suite of the six protein databases in the BKL include YPD, HumanPSD, GPCR-PD, WormPD, MycoPath PD and PombePD all offering the most comprehensive data collection on proteins available. The databases feature quality content, comprehensive references, disease information, BioKnowledge™ Transfer and integrated resources.
The ExPlain™ Analysis System is our novel tool for expression data analysis designed to investigate the regulation of genes of interest and uses this to construct a regulatory network model. ExPlain is offered in a mammalian focused edition along with a plant targeted release for agricultural researchers.
BIOBASE also offers versions of their products for plant researchers. Our BIOBASE Knowledge Library™ Plant Edition (BKL PLANT) offers rich, high quality plant focused content and integrated analysis tools spanning gene regulation and pathways to fully annotated plant genomes. Our novel ExPlain™ Plant Analysis Platform provides the unique ability to generate hypotheses regarding the upstream cause(s) (Key Molecules such as kinases, adaptor proteins, receptors, etc.) of observed gene expression changes in your target plant species.
